Principal Purpose

The post holder is responsible for maintaining information technology strategies across the country business units of the company. Achieving this by managing staff and researching and implementing technological strategic infrastructure and applications solutions.

The UK IT leader is a key member of the UK systems consolidation program which is likely to run until 2021

Principal Elements

  • Managing the country information technology team. Recruitment, selection, appraisal and development.
  • Leading large-scale projects including ERP implementations and business units’ integrations
  • Actively contributing to an SAP implementation
  • Closing working with the European functional leads and delivering the IT infrastructure and applications initiatives
  • Contributing to the region IT strategy
  • Working with European colleagues to maintain the company’s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies.
  • Coordinating IT resources and timetables in line with the demands of the business.
  • Recommending strategies, policies, and procedures based on current and future/anticipated requirements.
  • Maintaining a quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge.
  • Preparing and managing annual budgets and costs out initiatives.
  • Conducting system/technology audits.
  • Reviewing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.


Experience and Competencies:

The post holder must have:

  • Demonstrable experience of leading and motivating people
  • Demonstrable experience of influencing key stakeholders
  • Excellent inter-personal and personal skills ideally gained in a multi-cultural organization
  • Experience of managing business applications projects.
  • Experience of SAP ERP software and SAP 4 Hana are highly desirable
  • Managed projects to completion on-time and on-budget.
  • The ability to operate in a matrix structure. Working in an international, virtual environment where colleagues are in multiple locations.
  • Vendor management experience (establishing strong partnerships with vendors).


It is desirable that the post holder has:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A PRINCE2 qualification
  • An ITIL qualification


Person Specification:

  • A highly focused attention to detail.
  • Clear, concise and professional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage IT operations in a professional and flexible manner, whilst considering broader agendas and strategic needs.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
  • Must hold a current UK driving license.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.


The role is ideally based at the County Durham site. If based at one of the other UK sites it is expected that the post holder will then need to be at the County Durham site at least 3 days a week. Regular travel to all European sites is required.

Performance Measures

Annual appraisals to be undertaken by the IT Director and objectives set for the forthcoming year.
